How does a Gas Wood Chipper work?

Regardless of size/brand, wood chippers work in the same primary way: an internal engine (which may be electric or fossil fuel) powers the machine.

A gearbox connects the motor to a series of cutters via pulleys and V-belts. The pulley allows the engine to regulate how fast these blades move, while the V-belt transmits engine performance. Internal gears also aid in speed and power regulation.

For processing wood, wood chippers usually have two separate chutes. The first chute (the smaller of the two) tears the strands into shreds. Second, larger chutes come with blades and additional mechanisms to convert extra plant matter into mulch.
